Keeogo

INDICATIONS FOR USE AND CLINICAL BENEFITS Indications for use

Keeogo is indicated to assist ambulatory activities for individuals with musculoskeletal weakness or instability of the lower extremities. Keeogo may be selected to augment gait biomechanics by:

  • Enhancing knee strength via complimentary assistive torque
  • Enhancing mediolateral stability
  • Reducing pain by improving medial knee compartment load characteristics
  • Reducing pain or discomfort in the knee due to structural deficits

Users of Keeogo must have sufficient balance and muscle strength to safely ambulate in the device. These measures are based on clinical validated standards like the Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) and Berg Balance Scale (BBS).

For home use, this entails scores of:

  • Hip strength: MMT ≥ 3+ (flexors and extensors),
  • Knee strength: MMT ≥ 2 (flexors and extensors), and
  • Balance: BBS ≥ 45.

KEEOGO can benefit those with conditions that limit mobility such as:

  • Stroke
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Knee Osteoarthritis
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Myositis
  • Cerebral Palsy

Contraindications

KEEOGO should not be used with individuals with the following conditions:

  • Height under 152 cm (5’)
  • Complete paralysis of the lower limbs
  • Severe osteoporosis (T-score of -2.5 or lower, with one or more fragility fractures)
  • Joint arthroplasties of the hip and/or knee joint that would sufficiently limit range of motion for walking, sitting, or squatting activities
  • Severe vascular disorders of the lower limbs (disorders of a severity that would preclude safely tightening and wearing Keeogo’s cuffs about the legs, participating in exercise, or restrict mobility or balance such that one can not safely use Keeogo to ambulate)
  • Existing skin sores or skin breakdown the area where the device is worn
  • Severe fixed contractures (knee or hip joint in excess of 10 °) or spasticity (MAS ≥3 for knee or hip, >3 for ankle if AFO is not used)
  • Severe cognitive deficits (MMSE score ≤ 9)
  • Uncontrolled epilepsy or tremors
  • Uncontrolled autonomic dysreflexia
  • Severe balancing disorders, neurological disorders (any condition that precludes safe control of balance and/or limb motion at any point while wearing Keeogo)
  • Conditions that preclude safely performing moderate exercise
  • Pregnant women, or post-partum women who have not completed lumbo-pelvic recovery
